VRheritage.org is a non-profit-making association - endorsed by the UNESCO World Heritage Center, Nordic World Heritage Center and The Danish National Commission for UNESCO - set up to communicate World Heritage to the world's citizens via Internet, portable devices, VR (Virtual Reality) and travelling outdoor exhibitions. All sponsored by VRheritage.org and its partners and supporters, and with no cost to the public.

The vision of the association represents a bold multicultural and transnational initiative, inspired by the objectives of the WH Convention.  WH Convention

Thus, our aim is to promote Article 27 in the World Heritage Convention concerning information and education and in coherence with that article to implement the ideas expressed in the Karlskrona Recommendations (adopted by the 10th World Heritage Youth Forum, Sept. 2001), concerning awareness of negative as well as positive aspects of World Heritage.

Based in Copenhagen (with offices at the Danish Film Institute), the purpose of VRheritage.org is to develop the most evolved Web community possible that will put the general public in touch with the significance of 754 cultural and natural sites currently inscribed by the World Heritage Committee on the UNESCO WH List.  UNESCO World Heritage List

Anchored in the outstanding aspects of each of the sites on the list, the "World Heritage Explorer" will explore the potential of World Heritage as a turning point for interactive and innovative communication of cultural diversity as well as the cross-disciplinary aspects that surround the places on the list. Furthermore, the channel will explore and bring awareness to the ties that exist between many of the sites, thus promoting a holistic understanding of the concept.

The unique concept behind the "World Heritage Explorer" project is being developed in co-operation with recognized international public and private research institutions and authorities and we invite a diverse spectrum of public and private research institutions to participate with content, know-how and technology enabling the Explorer to offer a rich variety of applications.

An experimental prototype of "World Heritage Explorer" has been presented in conjunction with the 30-year anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention and will be promoted to the public as soon as possible.
